Creative Writing Events (MTSU & local)
- In Process presents an Open Mic & Cafe, Thursday, October 9, at 4:30 pm in the Sam Ingram Building MT Center. Everyone is invited to share up to four minutes of creative writing of any genre. Free and open to the public thanks to the Virginia Peck Trust Fund, Distinguished Lectures, the College of Liberal Arts, and the English Department.
- Writers Mingle, sponsored by the literary interest group of the Rutherford Arts Alliance, Poetry in the Boro, and MTSU Write, is set for Sunday, October 12, 3-5 pm at the Dapper Owl. Please register if you plan to attend.
- The Rutherford Arts Alliance (RAA), in partnership with We Remember You (WRY), Bloom Stage, and Poetry in the Boro, is proud to announce The Art of Unburdening: A Gentle Workshop Series for Caregivers, a six-month series of free, public workshops designed to offer creative and restorative experiences for caregivers in Rutherford County. The first workshop is October 15 with Mark Lamb leading storytelling and movement.
- In Process presents a staged reading of God Sighs, a play-in-progress written by Jon Herbert and directed by Malana Harris, Thursday, October 16, at 4:30 pm in the Sam Ingram Building MT Center. Free and open to the public thanks to the Virginia Peck Trust Fund, Distinguished Lectures, the College of Liberal Arts, and the English Department.
- The Southern Festival of Books is October 18-19 on the Bicentennial Mall in Nashville.
- In Process presents songwriter Gary Burr, Thursday, October 23, at 4:30 pm in the Sam Ingram Building MT Center. Free and open to the public thanks to the Virginia Peck Trust Fund, Distinguished Lectures, the College of Liberal Arts, and the English Department.
- Local “guybrarian” Brian Seadorf will be debuting his first poetry collection at Poetry in the Boro reading and open mic on Sunday, October 26, at the Dapper Owl. The feature will be at 6:00, with open mic to follow.
- In Process presents storyteller Kara J. Kemp, Thursday, October 30, at 4:30 pm in the Sam Ingram Building MT Center. Free and open to the public thanks to the Virginia Peck Trust Fund, Distinguished Lectures, the College of Liberal Arts, and the English Department.
- In Process presents a staged reading of Kingdom (a play about Snow White and climate change), a play-in-progress written by Claudia Barnett and directed by Christopher Cooper, Thursday, November 6, at 4:30 pm in the Sam Ingram Building MT Center. Outrageous Fortune, the country’s first nationwide online literary magazine for and by undergraduates, is currently accepting submissions of all genres: fiction, non-fiction, drama, film, art, photography, and poetry, and digital files such as video-recorded spoken word and short films. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis. Visit their website for guidelines.
