Better Practices: New Collection on Teaching Online

English faculty Dr. Candie Moonshower and Dr. Kate Pantelides (along with English MA alum Sami Grayson  and PhD alum and University Studies faculty member Brielle Campos) have published chapters devoted to best online teaching and grading practices in a new book put out by Colorado State University’s open access publishing collaborative (WAC Clearninghouse). Featuring a range of better practices related to online writing instruction (OWI) and assessment, this edited collection offers instructors and writing program administrators theoretically grounded approaches from teacher-scholars of online writing. 

Poe Studies Association Award

Professor of English and Honors Associate Dean Philip E. Phillips was invited to organize a roundtable, “Poe Spaces, Places, and Spheres of Influence,” comprised of contributors to his forthcoming edited collection, Poe Spaces, in Toledo, Spain. As the president of the Poe Studies Association (PSA), Dr. Phillips had the honor of recognizing the founder and president of the Edgar Allan Poe Spanish Association (EAPSA) with the Honorary Membership Award, the PSA’s highest honor, which recognizes significant and sustained contributions to Poe studies and to the PSA. These events were part of the Third International Congress: “Poe and the Pleasures of Art” sponsored by the EAPSA at the Facultad de Humanidades in Albacete (October 4th and 5th) and the Library of Castilla-La Mancha, Toledo (October 6th) in 2023.

His article “‘Let Us Veil Our Meaning’: Holiday Romance and the Second Reform Act of 1867″ appears in Dickens Studies Annual: Essays on Victorian Fiction Volume 54, Number 1, 2023He also had the book chapter, “Privacy in the Online Writing Center,” published in the book Privacy and Safety in Online Learning by MT Open Press.

English professor and Associate Dean of Honors Dr. Philip E. Phillips delivered the Siena Lecture at Aquinas College on “Boethius, Christianity, and Consolation” on September 28. In the audience were two English graduate alumni, Katherine Haynes, Ph.D. (English faculty at Aquinas) and Sr. Mary Esther Potts, O.P. (Librarian, Aquinas College).
